The Outremer catamaran offers the classic benefits of the catamaran, plus the specific qualities of a yacht designed for oceanic voyages. Boosted by its rich past and its very strong image with the ‘Round the World’ community, it is a safe bet in the market and represents a solid investment. Second-hand Outremers are rare; hence there is minimal tax relief.
Compared with monohulls, the catamaran is synonymous with speed as well as comfort, both at sea and at anchor. Heeling is a thing of the past, flying objects are no more, as are the cupboards, which open as the boat pitches suddenly or rolls inopportunely. It’s a radically different space up top, where the cockpit and trampolines provide a wide expanse of room for manoeuvres; a pleasure unfamiliar to monohulls. Down below, the owner’s cabin is naturally insulated from the hull, friends and children. Each person has their own space, their own living area, so crowding is no longer an issue, even in the galley and the saloon where all the crew like to get together.
An Outremer catamaran is a structure which is specifically strengthened, most notably with the use of a monolithic construction below the waterline for safety and ease of maintenance. Designed to handle rough weather, it has extraordinary stiffness, which ensures a very smooth passage through the waves and hence maximal limitation of impact.
